Volunteering at York House Centre
NOTE NEW TELEPHONE NUMBER FOR YORK HOUSE FROM MAY 2020: 01908 561075
As a self-funded charity, York House Centre relies strongly on the time and enthusiasm generously given by our team of amazing volunteers to raise funds and help with our community projects.
Make new friends and give something back to your community, there are so many different ways to volunteer at York House. You could….
Become a TRUSTEE
YHC is managed by a team of volunteer Trustees with the assistance of 4 part-time members of staff. The Trustees meet monthly to discuss the running of the building and to plan and implement our future development. Trustees each take the lead on one or more ‘Portfolios’ e.g. Marketing, Volunteer Liaison etc. Appointments are made at AGMs or by co-option between AGMs with the approval of the other Trustees – positions are subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS Check and an induction and training are given. If you have skills which you think would be useful then please get in touch.
Help out at our YOUTH CLUBS
YHC runs two Youth Clubs on Monday evenings and is always after volunteers. Volunteers are subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS Check. Contact admin@york-house-centre.co.uk if you are interested in helping out.
Join our FUNDRAISING TEAM
Regular events are organised at York House to raise funds and encourage a wide variety of different people and activities into the building. Events so far include coffee mornings, quizzes, music, spoken word & comedy events. Give your time to run an event or help in other ways such as baking a cake, taking a shift behind a bar or at a Volunteer Café, helping with set-up/tidy-up or by donating a raffle prize.
COMMUNITY ARTS PROJECTS
If you have an artistic flair, we have plenty of opportunities for volunteering! You can join our team of 50+ lantern volunteers or help out at our Arts for All family arts workshops.
MINOR MAINTENANCE & DECORATING
If you have DIY skills or can just provide some labour, we will be delighted to find you a job to volunteer for. As a Grade II Listed Building, York House is in constant need of TLC – all tools and materials provided, of course. We welcome individuals and also provide Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) opportunities for businesses. If your company runs a CSR scheme, then please consider York House for your next project!
COMMUNITY GARDENS
The far end of our back garden is now a well-established Community Gardens Project and Community Orchard. Local community groups have small allotment-style plots to grow fruit, vegetables and flowers. Help us to maintain the communal areas and share your gardening skills and know-how.
