Lantern Making Workshop

Make your lanterns ready for the Lantern Procession on Saturday 26 November and be part of Stony Stratford’s annual Christmas Lights Switch-On!

This year you can either choose to make your lantern/s at the York House Sessions OR you can buy a Lantern Kit to make your lantern/s at home. Either way, all lantern-makers are welcome to join the procession. There will also be after school frame-making sessions for the families of children attending Russell Street School and SMSG North (see below).

Cost is £6.00* per lantern (not per person). We recommend that you book your lantern/s in advance via the on-line booking system (on sale from 01 October – link will be added below) as the project sells out every year.

Please make sure you choose the correct ticket type as they are non-transferable:

York House Workshops – this allows you to attend any of the York House sessions which are 10am til 4pm on Sat 12 & Sun Nov and Sat 19 and Sun 20 Nov, you will be able to use a candle to light your lantern (but you can bring your own battery fairy lights if you prefer), lanterns are stored at York House ready for collection from 3.15pm on Switch-On Day.

Lantern Kit – we realise that some people prefer to make their lanterns at home, away from the hustle and bustle of the York House sessions. Lantern Kits will include full instructions and materials plus a bamboo cane and fixings so that you can bring your lantern along to the Lantern Procession. You will need to add your own battery-powered fairy lights as candles are not allowed in made-at-home lanterns for safety reasons. You will need to collect your lantern kit/s at one of our designated collection sessions which are 2pm til 4pm on Sunday 06 November (main hall) and 6pm til 7pm on Monday 07 November (front car park).

SMSG North – a special frame-making session in the school hall for the children of SMSG North and their parent/carer. Letters will be sent home in school book bags with full details and a unique link for you to buy your lantern/s to attend this session. You will need to attend the workshops at York House to finish off your lantern/s.

Russell Street School – a special frame-making session will be held in the main hall at York House Centre for the children of SMSG North and their parent/carer. Letters will be sent home in school book bags with full details a unique link for you to buy your lantern/s to attend this session. You will need to attend the workshops at York House to finish off your lantern/s.
