Act-Out & Act-Up – young persons’ drama group
Thu 20 Apr 2023
Weekly term-time drama groups for young people to provide sessions at a minimal cost, needing no auditions to qualify for a place and accessible to all levels and abilities. ACT OUT is aimed at 6-10yrs, ACT UP is for 11-18yrs, both sessions will cover theatrical skills in acting, storytelling and spoken word, directing, producing, writing, stage-management, dance and singing. The core philosophy is to build core life skills and support mental wellbeing through performance practice, cultivating a safe and fun environment to encourage the development of cooperation, communication, confidence and creativity.
During the Autumn term we focus on our annual Pantomime (see Events page), during the Spring term we have a skills based project, and in the Summer Term participants create their own theatre pieces to present at the Summer Showcase.
The sessions are run by Terrie Howey of Red Phoenix Storytelling & Productions in partnership with York House Centre. Terrie has experience facilitating workshops for young people and has been recognised internationally as a skilled performer and creator of entertainment events. Occasionally guest leaders will be invited in to demonstrate specialist skills.
